TurboLaw Time and Billing not receiving automatic updates

This problem occurs when a previously downloaded update for TurboLaw Time and Billing is still present on your computer, and the program cannot delete it so that it can download a new update. This problem occurs most commonly on Windows Vista or later, due to the more restrictive permissions on these versions of Windows.

Specifically, the old update file has permissions set such that it cannot be deleted by TurboLaw Time and Billing - it requires "administrator" rights to delete, and in Windows Vista and later deleting such a file requires you to click the "This program needs your permission to continue" prompt. Since TurboLaw Time and Billing itself cannot display this prompt, the file can't be deleted, and the new update can't be downloaded.

To resolve this problem, the previously downloaded update needs to be deleted so that the program can then download the newer update. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click on your Start menu and type the following into the Search or Run box: "C:\ProgramData\Promethean Software Corporation\TurboLaw Time and Billing\1.0.0.0\", then press Enter.
  2. A window should open showing the contents of this folder. One of the files you should see is called "update" (or "update.exe," depending on your settings). This is the previously downloaded update file.
  3. Click on the update file and press the Delete key on your keyboard to delete the file. Windows may prompt you for permission to do this; be sure to click Allow so that the file is deleted.

After you have deleted the file, TurboLaw Time and Billing will be able to download updates normally.
