When working in some MA/Criminal Law motions, the text in the caption of the document (usually not the main caption, but the caption on subsequent pages - for example, the affidavit) may appear "compressed" or "condensed," with the letters overlapping.
This behavior is caused by a specific font setting in Microsoft Word which has been found to be mistakenly turned on in certain documents.
To correct this behavior, follow these steps:
- Make sure your document is unprotected by clicking the Edit Document button.
- Select the problematic text so that it is highlighted
- Open the Font dialog box
- In Word 2007 or 2010, click the little arrow in the bottom-right corner of the Font section of the ribbon as shown here:
- In Word 2003 or earlier, click the Format menu and choose Font.
Once you have done this, the text will appear correctly.
