When attempting to undock TurboLaw from a network database, you receive an error message stating that there was an unexpected problem while undocking TurboLaw. The message will state:

Unable to cast COM object of type 'ADODB.ConnectionClass' to interface type 'ADODB._Connection'.

Cause

This problem is caused by a very specific set of circumstances which depend on what Windows Updates you have installed on your computer.

Microsoft has a KB article (2517589) which explains this problem in detail.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates installed. You may have some updates pending, or you may have turned off automatic updates in Windows. In particular, if you are using Windows 7, make sure you have downloaded and installed Service Pack 1 for Windows 7.

If you cannot (or don't want to) install the latest Windows Updates, you can follow Microsoft's instructions to work around this problem.
